1. You are a very busy man of late . Please give us a lie down on what you are working on ATM:
Spinning plates would just about sum up my working life right now!! Been very busy working on the new IDEAL brand with Amo & Andy - big plans afoot for 2013 with the Weekender event, label and tour nights. Alongside that i'm also continuing my work as label manager with several Hard Dance labels, training up my new protege Anth Alderson to take some of my work load off me on the label front, been working on a secret project that involves DJs & management, been working on several album releases including Kutski's Keeping The Rave Alive, Harder Louder Faster and others, promoting the night Rave On in Leeds which continues to go from strength to strength and also working on my own stuff in the studio and DJ bits. Looking at all that written down on paper actually scares me a bit, don't know how I have time to sleep!
2. It's exciting times for hard house ATM there is lots of buzz about the scene . Why do you think this is ?
It's weird, there really is a buzz at the moment – and that's not just me saying that for PR effect! Clubs are busy, events are springing back up, the musics getting really good again. It's a very exciting time in Hard House right now and i'm loving it. Not sure why it is, think it's just the fact everyones working together and the fact Hard House has been very very underground for so long, the music seems fresh again in a weird kinda way. It's coming back round!!! lol.
3. Who are your favourite producers ATM and why ?
Bk, Technikal and Ross Homson are doing it for me – all 3 are producing good solid party time Hard house with a cool edge. I've even been busting out some dance moves in the clubs again recently so the music must be good!!
4. What sound is doing it for you and what are your 3 favourite tracks that you are currently playing ?
This is my big downfall – I like everything, big electro tinged warpers to heads down hard house stompers. If it's a good track I play it and I do like mixing it up between the different styles. I am loving the UK Hard House sound again as it has defintaley got it's vibe back recently – new vocals, new tracks but maintaining the original feeling of good solid party music! Top 3 tracks are: Dave Curtis – Crash Test (Track of the year for me!) BK – Old Skool Rules (Party time!!) Astrobass – Flase Alarm (me and Technikal in a new studio guise!)
5. If you were to play an alternative set of any type of music what would you choose to play ?
Garage / Speed garage - I love it.
6. What's been your funniest djing disaster ?
Too many to mention, normally involving too much beer. Most recent one was me and Deano playing a vinyl set for the first time in 3 years. I got the first mix popping, turned round to Deano and said “It's just like riding a bike mate” with a really smug look on my face then as I turned back around I knocked the tone arm of the deck right across the record and fucked it all up. Top work there, pro.
7. You do a Live project. Please fill us in on it .
It's called F.U.N (fucked up nonesense) and it involves me and Deano mashing up loads of different genres into a Hard house based set. It's very tongue and cheek and is exactly what it says on the tin – fun. Don't take it too seriouly as we dont, it's party music to jump about to.
8. How did you get into the music and who were and who still are the djs that inspire you?
It just kind of happened with music - I can't rememer a specific time I said “i want to do that”, I just always did! Every DJ inspires me in some way, be it good or bad. Either “i want to do what they are doing”, or “i will never do what they do” - you should take inspiration from everything and anything!
9. You are based in the land of ferrets and gravy on Chips (northern) What differences do you see between the club scene between north and south?
Northern clubs are filled with whippets and you have to wear flat caps to get into them. Southern clubs everyone gets off their tits on jellyed Eels and bangs on about “sky divers” and “apples and pears”.
10. If you were going to start a riot for any reason what would it be?
I've had hiccups for the last 24 hours as i'm writing this interview, I feel like going and starting a riot right now as they are annoying the hell out of me, not the one at all!
